I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

 

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

 

I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:

 

 

After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

 

I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:

 

 

I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.

 

I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:

I tried resetting the Windows Update reset tool, using "MicrosoftFixit50202", found here:

I tried a clean boot.

 

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

 

None of this worked.

 

I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post, and a sfcdetails log, which I posted below. I appreciate any help you can offer. All of this is just to fix iTunes, and I don't even know if any of this will even fix the iTunes problem to begin with! But I'd still like to try. Thank you for your help

I can attach the CBS log file if you need it, but it's 10MB. If I'm not mistaken, the sfcdetails log serves the purpose of including only what's relevant from the CBS log, in a much easier to read format

 
While SFCDetails might be easier to read, it cuts out the most important piece of information, the full file path. Without the full file path there is no way to know with 100% certainty which file is corrupt.

Can you please upload the full CBS.log via Dropbox or One Drive and share the link back into this thread.

Here is the SFC log. At some point it asked me to insert the windows DVD if I had it, which I didn't. I'm trying to fix this laptop for a relative of mine and I don't think they have their original CDs

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

• Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
• Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
• Save any open documents and close all open windows.
• On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
• Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
• SFCFix will now process the script.
• Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
• Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

SFC /SCANNOW

• Click on the button. Inside the search box type in CMD
• Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
• Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
• Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

• Click on the button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
  

  cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

• Press Enter
• Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
