I formatted my HD and tried to install win xp. When setup is installing files, it will say setup could not install the file xxxx. Every time I try setup it won't install a different file. They're never the same. I've partitioned, formatted, and tried different setup discs. I even formatted with a Win 98 disc in FAT32, installed 98, Then tried to install Win XP. Setup removed the 98, formatted to NTFS and started the install. Same problem. Some setup files won't install. Every time I try setup, different files won't install. Memory problem maybe? Before I formatted windows would show me sentences with letters missing. It would show like 2 letters of the sentence. Sometimes if I ran my mouse over it the whole sentence would come back.
Please Help. I'm pulling my hair out.

Four original never been used cd"s??

If so, then either a: try cleaning the cd-rom with a lense cleaner, or b) take the other poster's advicw!!

I took two of the cds and had them resurfaced on a professional machine. One of the other cds was a dell still in the original package. Would a bad cd drive stop reading data intermittently?
