   ( My son wants 98SE installed on this machine for some games he found.)

     I've got an HP Omnibook 7100 that I'm trying to install WIN 98SE on (from a multi-licensed copy cd). I formatted the HDD. When I start it up with a 98SE boot disk in the cd drive, I get the BIOS info screen with a small red screen on top of it saying :

"Save to Disk partition not found

 Save to Disk feature is disabled

 Run Phdisk for information. FILE: create new.

 PARTITION: consult manual.

 Hit any key to exit."

   No key I hit does anything, except F1 or F2,  F2 takes me to the Setup (yes, it is set to boot from the cd drive first). 

F1 takes me to Boot Menu. I hit Enter to accept the already chosen cd drive, & it goes to a blank screen with :

"Invalid system disk

 Replace the disk, and then press any key"

   Please, no matter how embarrassed I'll be, tell me what I've forgotten to do. It's been years since I've tried anything like this.

can't find my win 98 disk to test but what did you partition the drive as? i'd create 2 small 10GB partitions and format them using the fat32 files system, don't think ntfs was around back then so that may be where your problem is, could be lots of other things too though.

 

a better option might be to install it into a virtual machine like virtualbox on a much newer pc. :- https://forums.virtu...php?f=2&t=59559

  It only has a 8GB HDD, so I partitioned it as 1 unit using FAT32. I downloaded a boot disk.iso from allbootdisks.com , and used Imgburn to get it on a cd. It booted the laptop and I replaced it with the WIN98SE retail disk to continue the setup. My latest problem came when the battery died during setup (I hate laptops). It's charging and I'll continue later.

  I got a invaluable amount of help from JohnC_21 over at bleepingcomputer.com. (He was the !st to respond.)

glad you got it sorted or would have if you'd had it plugged into the power lead.

 

i didn't remember you needed to boot from a floppy before inserting the cd to do the install, but now that you've mentioned it i do remember using both a floppy and cd.
