Ok, first, thanks to Besttechie for the fix that got you up and running again. Rambro came across a tidbit of information that may help with the Safe Mode problem, as well. Let's try it, the fix for your infection needs Safe Mode.

Please completely uninstall Nero Burning Rom, then try to get to Safe Mode using the F8 method. Let me know if this works.

Ok... got Nero completely uninstalled and still no luck getting int safe mode. Do you think threatening my 'puter with a sledgehammer might work?

The sledgehammer will definitely solve the problem. Are you using a USB keyboard? If so, you must enable the f-lock by pressing the f-lock key. Give that a try while I research more.

Have you tried using 'Last Known Good Configuration'?

I am using a wireless keyboard, but the sensor is plugged into the port marked for the keyboard in the back. I do not even know which is the f-lock key.

I have tried rebooting to last known good configuration and it takes me right back to the boot choice screen. The only thing that seems to work there is booting Windows normally.

Well, I've never suggested this to a user before, but we're quickly running out of options, particularly since you don't have an install disk. I suggest you boot normally, and then use System Restore to revert to a previous point. Try to go back to before you noticed your current malware problems.

Let me know if this works, and post a fresh HijackThis log, whether it does or not.

I had taken my tower in to a local computer repair shop before finding out about this site, and the tech there supposedly reset my computer to original factory settings and all. I lost a lot of programs and personal items, but had little choice because I could not even back things up to CD.

When I got it home, I soon discovered that the surfboard sidekick was still on my hard drive. The tech had told me that without the installation disc, he could do nothing more. That was $300 ago. I fear that if I do a system restore, I would loose all my new programs and still be in the same boat.

I have a friend who says he will send me a copy of Windows XP, but it might take some time.

If you have a disk, we can use the system file checker to try to fix things up.

Doesn't look like my friend is going to come through with the OS disc, so on Wednesday, I am going to break down and buy a Windows XP installation CD. I assume my best option is to do a repair first so I can get to safe mode?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I finally got the Windows XP Home Edition OS disk and performed a system repair... and guess what... I still cannot boot in safe mode. This is getting beyond silly. Anyway, here is a brand new HJT log for you to peruse.

Ok, let's see what we can do without Safe Mode, maybe we'll stumble onto a solution for that. You now have the Epolvy trojan, which often installs the infection your log showed before, and you have multiple other infections. Honestly, it's a mess, but let's see what we can do. I suggest we take it one step at a time.

First we need to take care of this Messenger Plus problem. It's never fully uninstalled. Please go to http://www.msgplus.net/ and download and install Messenger Plus, accepting ALL the sponsor software. Then uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs, and post a fresh HijackThis log.
