I have a Lenovo G505s getting this message

"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed
Insert recovery media and hit any key
Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."

I have changed the Bios to Legacy support as suggested on some forums but still fails to boot.

i don't have a recovery disk

Unfortunately, that error usually means that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. :(

Oh dear.

Is it possible to boot from an external drive.

This machine is really only used for browsing

Sure, you should be able to boot some variant of Linux from CD/DVD/USB flash drive.

(Windows won't boot and run from an external drive).

Google Translate:

Okay, well I think I do not réinstallerais but you never know, after my old pc which made me five years before his cowardly graphics card, I had never had any problems or reinstalled, I hope that from now on will be the case with this one too.
