new fan is causing pc to shut off...anyone ablke to help?

i just installed a new 120mm case fan into my pc becuse my old fan was and is pretty much a gonner it keeps making a loud vibration sound when playing for a few hours....

 

the fan i put in was http://www.bestbuy.c...1&skuId=3648006  it fit fine in the 4 pin connector up top of my mobo but the moment i went to turn on the pc the whole thing would power on for one second then turn off....so i unplugged the fan from the connector and the pc turnd on likke normal...so i dont know what the problem is any help would be greatly appreciated

 

 

pc specs

cpu-i7-4790

gpu-gtx 760

mobo-msi h81m-e33

ram- 16gb(i dont know the brand)

OS- windowes 8.1

i think thats all

I would suggest the fan is faulty, sounds like it is drawing way to much power, and may even be short circuited causing the system to protect itself and shut down. Reconnect the old fan again and if it works that will prove it.

I would suggest the fan is faulty, sounds like it is drawing way to much power, and may even be short circuited causing the system to protect itself and shut down. Reconnect the old fan again and if it works that will prove it.

there was no fan in that plug b4 i plugged in my new fan...the only fan in my pc is on the front which is the one thats doing the vibration

Gday.

Not sure I am reading your description correctly.

The top fan header is only for the CPU heatsink, if you remove it, the CPU will over heat and shut down the computer.

It is very unusual for a case not to have a rear exhaust fan and it should be plugged into the fan header on the left side of that MB.

A front intake fan should be plugged into the socket on the right/front header on that MB.

Well plug the new fan into the socket the old fan is working on and try that, that will tell you if the fan is ok or not.
