Thanks aido.
I started it up once more. It held for a while and I backed up the stuff on it.
Then the usual lines showed up. The mac guy downtown told me what I already knew - that those year macs have a video chip issue which is what I have already done.
The last time they fixed it by sending it out to CA. It was ridiculous cuz it took about 6 or weeks to get it back with a 6 month warranty on the chip.
What a joke. Now it's a lot more $'s to do the same thing.
He suggested getting another but only 2008 and newer.
There is a company I know that is good. I can either send the mac and they fix it, remove the logic board and purchase one from them ( one year warranty )and put it myself or they even purchase the mac. There are videos etc. of how to do it. It's not hard. It just means having the right tool (it only takes one special little screwdriver which I have), and taking my time to do it. $99. It would only take a few days to get the board. I may just do that.
But I already did the hardware test - the quick and the long one. I mentioned that above. I have not tried starting up holding down D. So I will give it a shot and see
what happens.
Thank you.
