I just built this PC a few days ago and have ran into a problem. Hooked everything up and installed Windows 8, a few programs and everything was fine the first few days. The other day I put the PC into sleep mode, which I have done for brief periods of time without any problems. However, I put it into sleep mode at about noon. I didn't use the PC for the rest of the day. Got up the next morning, moved the mouse a little like I normally do to get it to come out of sleep mode and got no response. Sat there for a minute, tried it a few more times with no luck. So I pressed the power button on the tower, still no response. I checked the power connections, everything looked fine. I flipped the power switch to the PSU to off and then back on. Hit the power button and it started normally. Never saw any error messages or anything. Haven't put it back in sleep mode since.

 

This isn't normal, any ideas? Everything, including the PSU is brand new. Here is what I have...

Have you checked to see if any updates were being installed at the time.

 

Only way to see if there is actually a problem would be to ensure that Windows is fully updated and then put the computer into sleep mode.

I believe it was up to date. However, if it did do an update, that would explain why it was shut down, but wouldn't explain why I had to power cycle the PSU to get it to boot back up, rather than just simply pressing the power button.

 

I have put it in sleep successfully before and after and been able to wake with both the keyboard and mouse. So that isn't the issue either. Hopefully it was just a  weird one time fluke.

Odd behaviour for sure but as you say it may have been a temporary blip which may not be repeated, if it does please come back to this thread and let us know and we can take another look at possible causes.

Ah, no worries at all. I appreciate your help. So far so good, has been into sleep mode for extended periods of time since this and woke up on command.

You may have done so already but can I ask that you check that you have a system restore point for your present stable settings.
