HELLO!

Please help :tazz:

The main problem is when I want to play music through I Tunes/Winamp. It plays fine at first but as soon as I load another application along side this such as gamespy etc my music becomes slow and distorted. The mouse pointer also if only in small amounts also becomes jerky when CPU usage is increased. My computer is also slow when booting.

I Use AVG virus checker, Ad-aware, spybot and microsoft antispyware all of which are clean.

The only recent changes have been A new DVD writer drive which has been installed correctly. The old drive died and I received a blue screen with error message. I only had the error msg once (and I cant remember what it said) Upon installing the new drive I have had no blue error messages.

Thank you for your time and patience reading this message.

that seems unlikely...that is not a standard amoung of ram....something like two 256mb and one 128mb stick?

download the above and run it. Check the memory

the music stored on the drive?

Have you chkdsk'd the drive? Defragged it?

Hi :tazz:

Sr the the above program you mentiond to check the RAM is not there. The music is spread over both my drives.

I have also run defrag on drives.

Jim

PS "SYSTEM" in control panal is showing "640" Ram. It has been like this since i have had the computer which is about 1 year.

Coacheswife brought this back to my attention--thank you for being patient and I will try to get this squared away---well, you're right, you do have 640mb of ram, and you also have rambus! Whoa, haven't seen too many systems with rdimm...neat.

But, not our problem...if anything, that should help, so let's move on....

in my signature, you will find a link to hijackthis---please download it, create a log, and cut and paste it to your next post---or save it as an attachment.

I want to see what's running in the background that you may not be aware of--not necessarily malware, but whatever

Are you using current versions of winamp? itunes?

i see several possibilities

Two firewalls? Sygate and zonealarm

Two antivirus protections?

Each time you load a file into memory, you've got four programs scanning it. Why are you set up this way?

Also MessengerPlus3 is evil (unless you have the paid version, and even then I am skeptical). This program has a history of downloading malware surreptitiously in the background. The author claims to have cleaned up his act, but he's claimed that before.
