ok thank you...I just didn't want to download something before asking if it was something I didn't need

I'm sorry for asking all these questions. Because of my disease I had given up on working on computers for quite a while, and am finding it a little harder then just jumping back on a bike so to speak

Ok tried running the ComboFix as requested but it keeps stalling out when it starts deleteing files

C:\Documents and Settings/All users/Application Data/ TEMP

so not sure if I should reboot and try again. I've turned off all running programs, the only one I forgot to turn off was the power settings for hard drive and monitor

It's AVG a known problem. I don't want you to have to uninstall AVG just to get combofix to run.

Are we getting anymore pop up alerts or anything like that ?

Reboot the computer and run it normally let me know how things are.

OK,

Lets uninstall Combofix, I'll be here late tonite too..
To do that;
  • turn off all active protection software. To disable AVG see Here
  • push the "windows key" + "R" (between the "Ctrl" button and "Alt" Button)
  • please copy and paste the following into the box--> ComboFix /Uninstall <-- and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the /Uninstall, it needs to be there.

Let me know how that goes.

OK,

It's important that was done.

About the page file in XP,

The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size. By default, XP sets up a page file 1.5 times the size of your RAM

The average user is best served by LEAVING THE PAGE FILE ALONE. XP does an excellent job of managing the page file settings for most people.

ok I'll just check but I think the pagefile is set to the original RAM which was only 512MB and there was a 2 gig chip inset last year

the total virtual memory is set only at 1790MB

Lets get back to the pagefile a bit later, You can also have a look Here

Can you run this scan for me

Download Security Check by screen317 from Here or Here
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

NOTE: If SecurityCheck aborts and you get the following message: UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM! ABORTED! try rebooting the system and then run SecurityCheck again.

That looks good except for Java, here's what we are recommending for that,

Note
Due to multiple security problems with Java we are now recommending that it not be installed unless you absolutely know you need it.

Off to work back at 4 pm.
Thanks
Joe

Hello,

Sorry missed you.

We need to remove the tools I had you download by using delfix.

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the 51a5ce45263de-delfix.png icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run.
  • The program will run for a few seconds and display a notepad report.
    Paste it for my review.

Ok here's the log for the delfix.. problems mostly solved but I am still getting that the computer's thinking once in a while even though nothing is open. I'm hoping its just CCleaner or AVG running in background
