I have a home built I7-920 with Gigabyte ex-58-ud3r motherboard. I have a built in card reader. Lately when I put in an SD card it tells me it will run faster on USB 2. It is supposed to be USB 2. How can I determine why it is doing this?

it pops up when you put in an older USB drive and tells you it can perform faster. Click on the balloon message to see a list of available USB 2.0 ports.

At the bottom of the This Device Can Perform Faster window, uncheck the box Tell me if my device can perform faster then close the window.

That is all there is to it. Now you won’t be annoyed by that message when you’re using an older flash drive or other device.

If I understand the question asked.......WilliamP has used SD cards before in the reader and has not told been told that it will perform faster on USB 2.0.

So the next question is......What has changed?

Has there been any hardware or software changes?

Since this is home built, how is the reader plugged in? Is it right to the main board on F_USB1/F_USB2?, or, is it plugged into an available USB port?

The manual shows 2 internal USB plugs and 8 external USB's on the back plane.

Ok ,I think I have figured it out. It was one of my SD cards that was the problem. I have 3 SD cards that I use in my trail camera. Each day I replace the one in the camera and check to see what pictures are on the one removed. One of the cards has gone bad.

Why would one bad SD card cause all three to not work?
