Hi,
I have a lenovo U460 laptop running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. My computer seems to have picked up an issue recently - It hangs right after boot and powers off abruptly after few minutes. Emeraldnzl was kind enough to help me remove malwares from my computer - http://www.geekstogo...ght-after-boot/

But freezing still happens right after boot( sometimes in login screen , sometimes in the process of booting).

I am not able to find a pattern here on what can cause this freezing. Overheating does not seem to be the cause - even if I don't use my computer for the whole day and boot in the night, freezing still happens. Even in safe mode, sometimes freezing happens although not as common as it happens in normal mode.

At this point we have disabled all the startup programs ( Windows -> search -> msconfig -> Disable all startup programs) , we have also disabled all non-microsoft services  ( Windows -> search -> msconfig -> Services -> Hide all Microsoft services -> Disable all ) ..

Any help to resolve my problem is very much appreciated..

After several tries to boot, I was finally able to boot in "safe mode with networking" and install speccy. Here is the link to my computer's snapshot - http://speccy.pirifo...kUDkkvsD5mFzSqh

When speccy started up, it performed analysis on various components on my computer and some of the analysis failed. Let me know if you want me to try this in normal mode instead of safe mode..

I have trouble running my laptop in normal mode. Freezing happens within a few minutes of booting in normal mode. Since I restarted after freezing more than a couple of times, disk check started automatically during the next boot and it showed the following during stage 1 & 2

 - Deleted some corrupt attribute records (stage 1) and Deleted a bunch of index entries ( stage 2 )..

chkdsk is still running, I will let you know if I can run speccy from normal mode after this. Also let me know if you need the chkdsk logs and where to grab those logs from?

Hi,

Rebooted after chkdsk fixed a bunch of stuff. Please see below for the speccy snapshot and logs from mini tool box..

1. Windows update is turned on already.. please see attached screenshot..But somehow speccy snapshot says Windows update AutoUpdate as not configured..

2. My laptop has 2 graphics card - Integrated and discrete. Integrated graphics card is Intel and discrete graphics card is nvidia geforce. The laptop has a feature to switch between these graphics cards..

3. Snapshot from speccy in normal mode - http://speccy.pirifo...LDtF2DoecuClXik

4. Minitool box logs :

Hi,

1. I have pasted the chkdsk logs below

2. I checked BIOS settings -> Boot -> I only see SATA HDD option there. There is no optical drive in my computer.

3. About the toolbars - I can remove AOL and ZoneAlarm toolbar, but I don't see it in the programs list to uninstall from control panel.. Please let me know if there is any other way to uninstall it.

4. I don't have the tools to open up my PC to clean it, I can get the tools and do the clean-up.

5. I turned on UAC.

Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is Windows.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.

Thanks for letting us know!  ;)

1) chkdsk logs shows it deleted the bad sectors!

2) For Booting device in BIOS, In first booting device is Sata HDD? then ok!

3) Regarding Toolbars, I see this in Installed programs in control panel  , but you did not see it, so try this 1,

How to Uninstall the AOL Toolbar from Internet Explorer

  • Open your web browser.
  • Find the Settings button, which should be on the right side of the AOL toolbar.
  • Click Help and then click Uninstall Toolbar.
  • Restart your web browser so that the changes take effect.

How to Uninstall the AOL Toolbar from Firefox

  • Open Firefox and then choose the Settings option that is to the right side of the AOL toolbar.
  • Choose Uninstall toolbar.
  • Click OK on the window that pops up to confirm the uninstall. Restart Firefox for the change to take effect.

For removing zoneAlarm Toolbar:

Google Chrome

1. Click on the Customize icon (wrench or 3 bar icon) next to the address bar and navigate to Tools > Extensions.

2. Search for the ZoneAlarm Toolbar extension and remove it by clicking the trashcan icon next to them.

Mozilla Firefox

1. Type Ctrl+Shift+A.

2. On the Extensions and Plugin search for the ZoneAlarm Toolbar add-on and remove it.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. Click Tools and select Manage add-ons.

ZoneAlarm Security Toolbar

2. On the Toolbars and Extensions tab search for the ZoneAlarm Toolbar add-on and remove it if located.

4) Regarding cleaning pc is good! But be careful in doing this.

5) UAC on fine!

6) Run your pc with anti-virus scan once again and tell me whether it found anything!

Hi Dashing star,

3) Emeraldnzl helped me update my browsers - I think we removed the toolbars already( I definitely remember removing ZoneAlarm toolbar). Sometimes, the control panel program list still shows recently uninstalled programs, but when I click on it - some kind of message pops up saying "already uninstalled" or something like that. I followed your steps to find the ZoneAlarm and AOL toolbars in IE, chrome and Firefox but I don't see those toolbars installed..

4) Ya laptop clean up took a whole bunch of time..I dismantled the laptop using my laptop's hardware maintenance manual, but it was a little difficult to assemble it back. The BUS connectors had to be properly installed again. My laptop did not power on after I assembled it, then I had to dismantle it again and adjust the "power on" BUS connector cable to fit properly.. :) and then I was able to power on my laptop

6) I am running a full system scan using Microsoft security essentials. I will let you know about the results after the full scan is complete..

Thank you very much..

Sorry for inconvenience ! actually i want to clean your laptop without dismantling it, it is my mistake that i did not properly give you that instruction! anyhow other than that all are ok regarding pc cleaning!

Do sfc /scannow in command prompt by going to start-->in search box type cmd.exe-->in the list appear right click on it-->run as administrator--> type sfc /scannow

Post back the result and also for virus scan.

Regards
