I have recently purchased two new laptop computers, a Toshiba Tecra and an HP. Boith are experiencing similar problems of blue screening when I plug in USB memory sticks or digital video card readers. It is not consistent. Sometimes, it is OK and other times I get the blue screen. There seems to be no common problem.

I have reformated the memory stick. When I use it on other desk top computers, no problem, just when I use the laptops. I have tried four different memory sticks to see if I might have a defective one but get the same results with all of them.

Any suggestions?

some systems have special usb drivers, depending on the chipset.

Check the laptop makers site for updates to either chipset or usb drivers
