I am using W10 and the Edge browser.

When I ran Edge today, it came up with a page showing I had a bunch of viruses and a Popup saying I had to call and 800 number or I would lose all my private data.  Nothing seemed to work, so I opened task manager and crashed Edge.

Starting Edge came up with the same fake virus page.  I crashed it again.

I ran Avira and SuperAntispyware; neither of which showed anything.

I ran Glary Utilities to clear my tracks, but that didn't help.

But then Glary offered to do an update, and that opened Edge to a real webpage!

That allowed me to open Edge Settings.

I changed my "open with" from custom to start page.  That fixed the problem.

My theory is that something changed my start page to that virus/popup page.

(I wish I had looked to see what the custom page was, but I didn't.)

If so, then how do I fix it if it happens again.  I got lucky this time because Glary opened a page; but I might not get lucky next time.

If that isn't the problem, then what might it be?

Thanks
