Hello,

 

I have a couple issues with corrupt files on my laptop. The first issue I'm having is that I have 2 video files that I can not delete off my computer. I have tried booting in safe mode to delete, changing the file extention and I tried using file assassin to delete them but none of these work. Any advice on how to remove them would be great.

 

The second issue I'm having is that when I start internet explore a message apears on the bottom of my screen that says "the file or directory C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\en-US is corrupt or unreadable. run chkdsk utility". Any advise on how to fix this corruption would be great too.

Did you run chkdsk already?

 

 

• open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
• type the command:
  

  chkdsk /f /x C:

  Note: When it ask if you want to checked the volume next time the system restarts answer Yes
• restart the computer.

I just ran chkdsk and restarted my computer. I am still getting the message when I open explorer and can not remove the files

I would like to see the chkdsk result

 

• download ListChkdskResult
• execute the file and accept all the windows prompts to authorize the program to run
• Notepad will open with a report showing the chkdsk result
• copy & paste the log to your reply

Also when I start the ListChkDskResult program there's a pop-up in the bottom right of my computer that says "the file or directory C:\Program files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared is corrupt or unreadable. run chkdsk.

Hi,

 

Do you have backups of your files? If no please copy them to some other place just in case if the Hard disk is failing.

 

Run chkdsk again but this time type:

chkdsk /r /x C:

Note: The Scan can take a long time, let it run.

Execute this please to generate another log

 

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

• List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
• List Devices (select Only Problems)
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

Lenovo have some diagnostic tools available here can you burn a CD or create a bootable flash to test the Hard Disk?
