Hello,

I bought a new battery fro my daughter's old laptop. The laptop will not recognize the battery. We did a hard reset. We shut down, removed AC and battery, uninstalled driver. Put battery back in and rebooted just battery and let windows reinstall driver. Nothing. We have shut down and started with AC and when windows is up we plugged in battery. Nothing. Everything is pointing to a BIOS update and that is where I am at. The laptop works running on this battery that it will not recognize, so it is giving power!

Any help or ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Stacie

Hello stachad,

Is the replacement battery a genuine like for like HP product, if not and the battery is a generic replacement it may explain what you describe, OEM computers (most notably the Dell brand and not HP) often do not like none branded components such as third party batteries.

Have you tried using the notebook with only the battery for power and the AC adaptor completely disconnected.

I apologize for this delay. The battery is the correct one, it will just not recognize. I have had the battery in and run the laptop with it not plugged in. So whenever it finally depletes the computer is not going to charge it as it doe snot recognize it is there. Looking at buying an external charger?
