A friend gave me her computer to check. 

 

It can't boot. 

 

The initial error was 000000e > a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

 

I created a Windows 10 media creation tool and tried Method 1 here: FIX: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed 0x000000E on Windows 10/8/8.1 - WinTips.org

 

However, I am still getting this: Total identified Windows installations: 0

 

After that, I removed the disk (it's an SSD actually) and put it in an external case. It flashes, and shows for a while system reserve as a disk (D). Sometimes, disk E also appears and disappears (it's the SSD). Then, everything disappears, and again the same thing. 

 

I put the SSD back in the computer, and now I'm getting a different error: 000000f > BCD is missing or corrupted. 

 

I tried to run Diskpart > list disk > list partition (the Windows disk and partition are shown), but I get the error: Diskpart has encountered an error. A device which does not exist was specified. 

 

Is the disk dead or there is something I miss?

Sounds like the SSD is toast and while not perfect at least it has gone south while it is in warranty.

 

What is the brand and model name or number of the SSD.

 

Have you tried mounting the device in Linux or Ubuntu.

The brand is Lexar but I don't have the model or number now.

 

No luck with Linux. The SSD is recognized, but it says that the NTFS volume is in an unsafe state and cannot open.

I used this command to fix the volume and the disk opened: sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdXY

 

I found the files and now I'm transferring them in an external disk. 

 

The problem now is that the computer entered sleep mode and I can't get out of it to see the progress. Well, I'll keep you informed I guess.

Good to see that you have been able to access the data, were you aware that Lexar have a data recovery tool not sure how useful it as as I`ve not used it.

 

I have all my settings to Never and always suggest to members to do the same when troubleshooting, those simple settings can cause so much grief at the most inappropriate time.

I don't use Sleep/Hibernate either. And now I have to go and touch a bit the touchpad so the computer won't sleep! As you said it: the most inappropriate time!!!!
