Hello,

I am using MS Office 2010 and I am unable to receive my mail from my Hotmail account.  The problem started when Microsoft switched over from Hotmail to Outlook.  I would like to try and delete and reinstall my Hotmail account but I'm not sure if I'll lose any of my contacts and calendar data.  Or, maybe it is repairable without having to delete Hotmail.

Thanks

Chris

what you have to do is remove the old Hotmail account and then add the Hotmail account back, but this time in outlook you would choose the exchange server type instead of the other type that you used the first time. you shouldn't lose any contacts that are in your Hotmail account. if you're worried you can export your contacts to a PST in outlook first https://kb.wisc.edu/...ge.php?id=38438

I have reinstalled my hotmail account but now I can not log into my account.  I know the password is correct and I've tried the hotmail and outlook extension.  Nothing seems to work, any Ideas?

again, the outlook extension isn't used anymore. you add the outlook/Hotmail account as an exchange account. and, do you mean you can't log on to the account if you go to Hotmail.com?

What do you mean by exchange account?  When I add my account back into MS Office Outlook 2010, it shows a green check mark on: established internet connection; search for hotmail.com account server settings; log onto server.  Then it says to restart MS Outlook.  When I restart MS Outlook a dialog box appears showing my email account and asking for my password. And that is as far as I get.  My correct password does not work.  I can log onto my Hotmail.com account using the internet with no problems.

I'm trying to find the instructions I used when I had to redo my account. for the life of me I can't find the method I used. I know how to set up an exchange account I'm just not sure what I need to tell you to put in the server settings portion.

I had the exact same thing happen with my Hotmail when they made the switch.....and of course, now I can't find any of the info I used

ok, so I just removed my Hotmail account in outlook and put it back. all I did was remove the account from my outlook profile. then I went through the normal setup process.

so in outlook I did: file, account settings, account settings (again), then new, then email account and next, filled in the top part (name, email address, password twice), then next till it was done. which automatically configured the Hotmail account as an exchange connection.

That is exactly what I did as well.  Then is says you must restart MS Outlook to activate the changes.  When It restarts the green checks appear showing everything is good to go.  Then the dialog box appears asking for the password for my email account.  I inter in the PW and then nothing.  It does not accept my PW.
