If I unlock a cpu, as I understand it, I may get data corruption. Is there any application I can run that'll check that? For gaming I figure I'll notice any problems. But for coding I couldn't take the chance unless I could verify results are correct. This mobo can't take ECC ram either.

 

Now lots of folks have unlocked a Phenom II and corruption rarely comes up in conversation but I'd like to be sure. Not to mix apples and oranges but I read hyperthreading can also cause corruption. Makes me think i5 vs. i3 or i7 when I finally upgrade.

 

Lastly, overclocking doesn't cause occasional mistakes or does it?

Can I ask where you read such information as what you describe was linked with enabling disabled cores on an older processor from way back.

 

Regarding OCing, having repaired too many computers that have smoked due to a bad OC I am not a fan of it and would always suggest that a person build or purchase a computer that is appropriate to their needs, there is no need to manually OC anything nowadays as most MBs ship with software that automatically OCs unlocked CPUs etc.
