Hello -

Two issues.

I have an acer Travelmate P653M professional laptop. Last week I downloaded a corrupt Windows update which froze my pc. I was running Win 10 but had to reset the pc to its original settings which has me back at Win 8.1 Pro. In the process if reinstalling everything I have encountered two issues.

1. Dolby Home Theater driver - when I log on to the PC I get an error message " Unable to start the Dolby audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists." On the Acer support page for my pc (I use the term "support" very loosely!) there are no drivers for Dolby. The only audio driver is for Conexant (Audio_Conexant_v8.54.48.0_W81x64_A.zip). The Dolby website offers no support and just refers me back to Acer. The Acer community tehs have just suggested I download the Conexant software which I have done twice and the issues continues.

2. Egistech Bio Protection software - My laptop has a fingerprint reader. I have downloaded the driver from the Acer support page. The Acer instructional video says the activation process requires that I insert the Egistech disk in my pc. I didn't receive a disk with the pc thus I need help locating the software to download to create a disk or advice on how to access some other executable program to help me activate the program. Note I do not see the Egistech in the list of apps loaded on this pc. Perhaps solution is in the zip drive I downloaded from Acer but I don't see it.

Thanks

Can't help you with the fingerprint stuff but might be able to help with Dolby.

Do a search for Device Manager and open it.  View, Show Hidden Devices then look in the right pane for yellow flagged items.  If you have more than one what are they.  If you just have one we will assume it is the Dolby thing.  Right click on it and Select Properties.  Click on the Details Tab and then change  to Device Description to Hardware Ids.  Right click on the top line and select Copy then start a Reply and paste (Ctrl + v ) the copied text and Post.

Go to the Acer support site for your PC and look for

Bluetooth Atheros Bluetooth Driver v8.0.1.305 251.4 MB 2013/10/08

It should be

http://global-downlo...BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Alternatively there is a slightly newer one at:

Thanks. Completed as instructed. all yellow flagged items have disappeared. Not sure whether this addressed the Dolby issue or not. However can report at login the Dolby error message did not pop up. In addition to your suggestions the Dolby error was also highlighted within the flag in the lower right tray. I clicked on error message and it opened a task manager with various apps that initiate at start up. Dolby was identified as having a compatibility issue. I tried to use the trouble shooting tool to resolve as it confirmed there was some sort of compatibility issue present. No resolution via the troubleshooting tool so i selected the disable option.

I'll monitor to see if/ how this impacts audio going forward.

I also found a solution for the bio protection so the fingerprint tool is working now.

Can mark as closed with issue all resolved.

Thanks!
