I have used cutepdfwriter for years.   When I installed it on the newer computer,  it no longer works seamlessly.   What ever pdf  I bring up, CutePDF does not see it and windows asks me what program I want to use.   CutePDF is not  listed.   Is there another free program out there for us occasional users?

Hi Janis,

Which operating system is installed on this computer?

I wonder...

CutePDF reader installs a virtual printer on your computer. Look for Devices and Printers in the Control Panel and once open, see if you have an icon\image for CutePDF writer. Right click on it an choose Set as default printer.

Otherwise, I have used FoxIt Reader for years. Please be advised that you may have to uncheck any pre-checked software. Choose custom install if the option is presented.

If you'd like, you can download Foxit Reader from here.

Sumatra Reader is another PDF reader that I would recommend.

The OS is WIN7 64bit On the older pc also win7,   each time I use cutepdfwriter and choose print, it comes up with a save to folder and prints to that folder.   On the newer laptop,  no such thing.   My printer is listed of course as primary and cutepdf is also on the printer list. (older pc) I have installed, uninstalled, and then reinstalled again but any pdf that I want printed to a folder never is seen,  It can't seem to see any pdf's.  So now I need to find a reader that will work on the newer win7 laptop

Janis,

Have a look at the instructions found here. The 1st step says that installing cutepdf writer is a 2 step process. When installing, did you follow the process listed in the link? You would think the program should work properly on the newer computer as well as the older computer since they are the same OS. Otherwise, one of the two PDF reader programs I recommended above should work for you.

Thank you,  In the previous installation,  I did not have to download and install anything,  just chose install for CutePDF.   I'll try the new way this time.
