Gday John.

Does the drive play other disks?

Can you burn something else, then read it?

Hi there,

The drive does play other disks.

I couldn't burn anything with The Sonic DVD package that came with the PC but I think there was something wrong with that anyway.

I downloaded BurnAware Free and was able to burn pictures to a DVD and read them no problem.

Thanks

John

Gday John.

Please try again to create the rescue CD, As you have previously built the PE files, the wizard should skip all the download steps and go to the burn disc part.

If still a fail, try burning to a USB stick.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay.

I tried again but still a fail to a disc.

Tried burning to a USB stick and it looked as if it went OK but when I tried booting from the disc I got- 'selected boot device not available - strike F1 to retry boot (which doesn't work) or F2 for set up utility.

If I hit F2 it takes me back into set up and does the same thing again.

Thanks John

Gday John.

The USB fail, possible because the stick was incorrectly formatted.

We will try the CD again,

Uninstall  BurnAware Free.I have just used IngBurn on this XP rig, Success, and very simple to use.   Download/install from this page, choose the Mirror 6, MajorGeeks.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay again, been working away and only getting a chance at the weekends! Thanks for being so patient!

Tried the steps and it seemed to go OK. Tried booting from the disc and it took me to the attached Macrum screen. Can you tell me if it looks OK?

Thanks

John

Gday.

Don't worry about delays.

That is the right screen, good job.

Are you using the computer?

Have you optimized the drive using the Magician software?

Next step will be creating/saving an image.

Hi,

That's great.

Not using the computer much till I get this all sorted so using my newer one at the moment.

Optimized the drive using the Magician software? Not sure what that means! Here's me thinking I was getting up to speed with this computer stuff!  :D

Much more guidance needed!  :D I'm up for it though!

Thanks

John

Gday John.

Please follow the steps.

Start Magician.

1.   In the left widow, > click Firmware update, in the right window, if an update is available, > click Yes to continue.  Wait for the process to complete, then your computer will shutdown.

2.   Restart the computer, when the desktop loads, > start Magician, > in the left window click Performance Optimization, > Click Start, click yes if asked.   Wait for the process to complete.  (if the computer shuts down, . restart, then start magician.

3,   In the left window, > click OS Optimization, in the right window on the top menu, > click Maximum Capacity, > at the bottom of the screen, > click Apply.

on the confirmation screen that opens, > click OK.

Wait for the computer to restart to the Desktop.

That's it, hope it goes OK.   Post back for the next steps.

Gday John.

Install Samsung Magician, it will be on the CD that came with the SSD.   If it has been misplaced, download and install from > http://www.samsung.c...load/tools.html

Then follow the steps in Reply #161.

Hi,

It was a Kingston SSD that I used. Should I be using a Kingston equivalent?

Thanks

John

 Muddled with another thread.

I think it's the Kingston Toolbox.   You would have to run it and see if there is any sort of optimization tweaks, apart from Firmware Update.

Have you installed your backup Data to the SSD yet?  if not, go ahead and do it now.
