I have an acer aspire ase 380 that i put a 1TB hard drive in .It was running Windows 10 but, i kept getting 100% disk usage and major lag .( I hardly had any programs installed on it)I formatted the HD twice and installed Windows 8.1 ( I don't have a disk for 10).Now the installation process is even slower than it was the first time i installed it.Should i save the Hd and get a new tower or junk everything and get a Mac?Please help i'm at my wits end with this piece of junk.

What is the disk that you installed?

I got one of those "green" drives and the performance was horrible. This was quite some time ago and I have heard rumor that things have changed, but as a system drive it did not work for me.

Based on that I see for the specs of your machine, it seems somewhat reasonable. Linux tends to run much faster and you could test your machine by downloading and burning a LiveDVD, like Knoppix, which would tell you if the machine seems to be working. If it has some sort of problem, it could slow it down.

That is the same exact drive I had a problem with. I ended up replacing it and using the green drive for storage, which it seems to work ok with.
