Console 1 =Console Root- Certificates -Current User, Personal, Certificates,                                       Expired 7/11/2013

Console 1 =Console Root- Certificates - (Local Computer), Personal, Certificates                              Expired 12/31/2013

On both i tried both "Renew Certificate with New Key" and also " Renew this Certificate with the Same Key"

A Certificate Enrollment window pops up - Next

Enrollment error - The request contains no certificate template enrollment - Finish

That concludes the Renew process

If i close the Console 1 window, it asks if i want to save console settings to Console 1

Save As window to ?

I've obviously done something wrong as well as its not locating certificate

It should say issued to and who issued it:  What does it say?  Or right click on All Tasks and then Export and attach the file to a Reply.

See mine:

The thing is that it doesn't look like it would be anything to keep it from updating.

We may have to go back and let the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 run for a few days.

If you just take the default it will save it as Console1.mmc then next time you can Search for Console1.mmc and when it finds it right click on it and Run As Admin.  That saves doing the Add steps.

Don't miss my previous reply.

I think you can just delete the two certificates.  I don't have either on my Win7.  Neither world keep you from installing updates.  The first one is probably left over from when it was a work computer.  The second one is used when you sign in to a windows live account.  Did you Open them up and see if either matched the character string from the error message?

I opened the local computer certificate details and the thumbprint matches.
Thumbprint d6 41 c8 dc 82 87 14 9d e2 09 1c 87 4a 2c c6 32 d2 09 30 69

On the General tab of the certificate,
The integrity of this certificate cannot be guaranteed. The certificate may be corrupted or may have been altered.

OK.  We found the reason for the error but unfortunately it's not going to help.  Just delete them both.

Control Panel, (View, By Large Icons), Windows Update, Change Settings

Change Important Updates to Check for updates but let me choose to download and Install them.  OK

Go in to Services.msc and stop Windows Updates then:

Copy the next line:

net stop bits & Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat" & net start bits

Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and Run as Administrator, Continue.  Right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied line should appear.
Hit Enter

Go in to Services.msc and start Windows Updates

Now run a Process Explorer log as before.  Remember to wait a minute for it to settle down before saving the log
