Any chance your WiFi adapter can run in the newer 5.2 range instead of just 2.4. I think your router should be able to do the newer range but you would have to tell it that you wanted it.

When I update, the network no longer shows up in the available list on the computer. Works on my smartphones however. Is there a way to enable 5 access on my wireless card?
Thanks for sticking with me all this time!!

Looks like it's a single band adapter:
Found this on an HP forum:
Anytime you see a suffix of bgn on a wireless card description, that means it is a single band (2.4 GHz) only card.Wireless N cards whose suffixes end in abgn or agn are dual band (2.4 GHz/5.0 GHz) cards.
so that's not going to work. You could buy a new adapter. Amazon has one that has decent reviews for $14.98
Glam Hobby 600Mbps AC600 Dual Band USB WiFi Dongle & Wireless Network Adapter for Laptop / Desktop Computer - Backward Compatible with 802.11 a/b/g/n Products (2.4 GHz 150Mbps, 5GHz 433Mbps)
An alternative would be to call AT&T & complain about the WiFi. which is what I did back when we had AT&T. They sent a guy out to the house and he installed a netgear range extender for free.

The extender plugs in to a wall outlet between you and the router and retransmits the signal. (It also has an Ethernet jack so you could let it connect at 5 gb and then hardwire into the laptop.) That didn't help my problem which was that the WiFi would stop connecting to the Internet even tho I had good signal but they didn't ask for it back when we canceled the service.

Thanks for the tip! Great idea. I will call AT&T as you advised.
The unresponsive/slow responding explorer/file issue still occurs (upon right-clicking). Should I just follow the instructions you gave earlier when this happens? I may perform an OS reinstall soon in case there is some kind of software glitch causing that issue.

ShellExView will cure a lot of right click problems. so give it a try and uncheck any that are not from MS.
