I am unsure whether this is the right forum to post this, so if this should be moved please let me know.

I have had some problems recently installing some programs. It started earlier in the year, after I got a GoPro, I tried to download their Studio program. It would not load, kept stalling out halfway through. A couple months ago I tried installing Quickbooks, to the same effect. Now, its ArcMap.

I'm taking a course for mapping energy infrastructure systems, which requires me to to load the ArcMap program. Unfortunately, I get an error message every time. The screenshot has been attached.

The reocurring problem with installing programs leads me to think that there is an issue with my computer. How can I figure out what the problem is?

Hello,

Not sure if I can assist on this, but the person that does will need a bit more information.

What is the exact operating system.?  Windows 7 ultimate 64 Bit ?

We don't see the screen shot.

What error message do you get ?

Please provide the full operating system installed.

Hello

The other thing i noticed is System requirements for ArcMap

ArcMap System requirments

Operating Systems Minimum OS Version
Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise (32 bit and 64 bit [EM64T]) SP1
Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit [EM64T]) Update: April 2014
Windows Server 2012 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit [EM64T])

That does not account for the other programs not installing like quickbooks though.

Should be able to attach screen shot like this,
  • Below the Reply to this topic box, click on More Reply Options button.
  • Scroll down and click on Browse button.
  • Navigate to where the file is that you want to attach
  • Click on the file then click the Open button.
  • Click the Attach This File button.
  • Click Add Reply button once you have completed your post and are ready to submit.
Let me look at the speccy report quickly, then we can run system file checker.

Next
Lets check the System files

To do that
  • Open an elevated command prompt by right clicking on the command prompt and choosing Run as administrator.
  • In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Please note the space between sfc /
  • This may take a little bit of time to finish so your patience will be needed.
  • If there are no problems found System File Checker will say,
"Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

If System file checker fails or can't fix a file follow the instructions below:

When the scan is complete, open another elevated command prompt and copy and paste the following command, then press Enter.
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

This will place a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop with only the SFC scan result details from the CBS.LOG in it.
Please copy and paste the results in your next reply.

Sorry about that I'll need to adjust those instructions

To get a command prompt.

Click the Start button, in the search box type cmd. You will then see the command prompt above in the menu. Right click on it and choose "Run as administrator" a black window will open.

In the black window type-> sfc /scannow and press Enter. Please note the space between sfc /

Open a Elevated Command Prompt like you did for sfc / scannow and run the following in sequence.

First run this command-> Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Second run this command-> Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Last run this command again-> SFC /scannow (repeat this 2-3 times if necessary till all errors are cleared)

Instead of typing the commands you can copy the command in bold with your mouse. Then put your mouse in the command prompt window, right click an choose paste. Then command will paste into the command prompt. The hit enter on the keyboard.

Under both the first two commands, I have gotten an "Error 87   The cleanup Image option is unknown."

Suggestions?

Hello,
Sorry about that,

Those commands may not be recognized by Windows 7 home premium.

So back to this original error with System file checker--> "Windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

Again open a command prompt, run as administrator, copy the command below in bold into the command prompt window.

net start trustedinstaller

If it says started installer successfully.

Then run sfc /scannow see if it runs

Let me know what it says.
