Ad-aware has functioned properly on this system until we had an unrelated system crash while my nephew was running some simple online games (which I have cautioned him not to do). Window Me would not load past the initial desktop background spash screen. With some difficulty I was able to get it back up running.
It was after this experience that I began having the problem I'm detailing here, in that I can run the scan, go in and manually run the quarantine option, save to a file I named "badstuff" and then clicking finish where the automatic quarantine runs, finishes, and then the deletiing status bars appear to almost finish, but then it hangs. I can't cancel, but have to manually stop the task running.
I've even tried limiting the folders scanned so that it finds just the malware I'm trying to eradicate. I have tried cancelling out of the deletion process in the earlier part of its progess.
I've also downloaded and reinstalled ad-aware personal edition to no avail. It almost seems to be some sort of configuration issue, or maybe it is hanging on some file(s) being deleted that may be write protected. I don't recall the name of the malware issue at the moment (may have "rad" in it's name), but it is insiduous in that deleting the two of them from a running task list only serves to replicate/relaunch them with different names. I successfully got rid of these items 6 months ago, but now they are back and Ad-aware isn't functioning fully.
Bear with me on any offered suggestions as I can only access this badgered system when I am at my sister's home.
Thanks,
...russ
