Internet down when vpn is on

Hi, ive been using hotspot shield fine for some time. Now when I put it on, using my windows 7, it makes both chrome and Firefox display as Internet offline... when I unistall its fine again. Any ideas cos I'm not an IT guy at all? Thanks

Possibly your AV or Firewall blocking it, what AV and Firewall protection are you using.
