Uploading footage from Vixia HV40 to Dell XPS PC running Win10

I need to upload and edit video from my Canon Vixia HV30 and HV40 camcorders (which record to digital videotape).

I have Wondershare Filmora editing software already, which worked well for my first amateur project. But I'm open to changing to another editing software. For that project, I had our videographer convert the files on his system, then I just edited them.

Now I need to be able to both upload and edit. Do I just need the right cable? Or is it more complicated than that?

I'm running Windows 10 operating system on a Dell XPS PC.
