Google search engine never seems to find the same results as Bing and I cannot seem to lock Bing in as my default in Google Chrome.

 

 

That is because both are separate search engines, made by different companies and therefore incompatible.

 

Notice how much of your resources FF is using even though it is not in use, many plug-ins have a less than desirable affect I`m afraid, entirely up to yourself but I cannot see the point of having more than one browser, you only have 4GB of RAM some of which is used to support the R5 graphics and the more tabs and browsers that you have installed and/or running the more your system resources will be used up.

      I will uninstall Firefox and switch to google fulltime, which should save some of the memory.  If I wish to increase my ram, would I be better off adding two more Ripsaw 2meg bars or remove my current ram and installing 2  4 meg units, I have 4 slots but I was told I should not mix sizes in the slots?

      I guess if I uninstall Firefox and google seems to be working in an ok fashion, you have solved my problem.  I appreciate all your help

Regarding the RAM, I would suggest two X 4GB sticks of appropriate RAM such as the example/s here

 

** While we are on the subject of RAM, can you confirm that the RAM here is what you have now, couple of reasons why I ask;

 

1: You should be using 1866MHz RAM with the CPU that you have, see CPU Specs - Memory controller info here

 

2: Speccy shows that your RAM is running at 1333MHz (2 X 667MHz).

 

** If the RAM at the link is the same as what you have, the RAM is tested and proven to work at 1600MHz but the SPD (which are basically the fail safe settings) is 1333MHz and for it to run any faster it would need to be overclocked, regardless of this, you should see a vast improvement in performance with 1866MHz RAM.

     The MFG label inside the sealed package of memory sticks reads:  F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM  DDR3-1600 PC3-12800  2048MB X 2  CL8-8-8-24   1.6V   These are the two sticks installed in April 2013 when I built this PC using the original APU AMD A4-5400w/ Radeon R3.  I replaced the APU with the current APU A6-7400k, Radeon R5 in June 2015.  The first time I ran Speccy prior to changing APU's I noticed the difference in speed (1333 run v 1600 tested) but did not pursue the reason for the difference.  These are the same as the ones in your link.  When I started this topic, I tried to check my older content, but I guess your archives don't keep topics that old.  I probably can go back in my email account and retrieve all the original copies of my correspondence with g2g on the specs for this PC.  I do not think that is necessary, but I tried so hard to follow the advice of g2g in using every item that was recommended. from the case to the MB, APU, Power Supply, HD, CDRW, & fans + external HD back-up.  I will change the memory sticks to your suggested specs.  Will they really make a noticeable difference?  This computer has been a pleasure to use, but is sometimes a little slow in using the "Open Office" word processing & spreadsheet program which slowness was compounded by this disruption after installing the AMD up-date and that is still a problem even after reinstalling the program.

Not finding anything using your previous CPU details, APU AMD A4-5400w/ Radeon R3 check the Previous generation specs tab here and you will note that none of the A4 APUs are shown to have R3 graphics and that some are compatible with 1600MHz RAM and some only 1333MHz RAM.

 

Your old threads are still available in the archives but are not always available in content, this is due to major improvements GTG made back in 2015 with posts previous to this not always showing in folks content.

 

The suggested RAM will run at a stable speed of 1600MHz without any adjustments, to get it to run at the 1866MHz speed you would need to overclock it in the BIOS, this is the norm btw, you will see an improvement as the RAM will be running nearer to the speed that your CPU is + you will have the additional 4GB.
