dear experts,

I need your knowledge for upgrade a PC that Win10 destroyed...

The usage is mainly for browsing and for edit pictures with Photoshop/LR, so don't have to be a monster but not too slow as well.

It uses some LAN drivers so the network performance have to be good

I would like to use an Intel processor and Asus MB

Could you please recommend the best RAM/CPU/MB combination for my needs?

Unfortunately, the budget is not infinite, and I need to keep it under control: on the other way, I prefer that this upgrade will be not obsolete in 1 year

thanks in advance to all!

cheers

Gday

Please answer all questions.

From this topic, > http://www.geekstogo...dpost&p=2571804

1.   is this your current computer?

2.   How has W10 destroyed it?

3.   What are the problems?

From this Topic. > http://www.geekstogo...dpost&p=2577057

4.   Did you reinstall the OS to the SSD?

5.   Your budget?   We do need a $$ to work from.   If you want a similar build to your existing? you will probable need an i7 CPU.

Tell me if I have this correct.

You will reuse your existing hardware.

SSDs/HDDs.

Optical drive.

Case.

PSU.   (please give the brand/model)

Note. If your existing OS is an OEM one, or an upgrade version, you will need a new OS licence for a new MB.

Dear Technician,

these posts were on my other PC, where I've re-installed everything and now all is fine, thanks to your help!

this one is my brother PC, that needs lower spec and lower budget than my machine, since he uses it as described above. This is an old one, and since the drivers for Win10 are not available we've decided to update it, hence my question :-)

Win10 make programs hang all the time and become very slow: moreover, it's a 32bit and I want to move it to 64bit since the new Lightroom works only on 64

here what I want to reuse

- 1 DVD burner

- 1 HDD 1Tb (1 year old, I would keep it)

- Universal case

- PSU no marks (looks like cheap stuff...), if inside the budget could be good to replace

budget around 5~600 USD, less better than more

Please let me know if I clarify all your questions :-)

thanks very much for your answer

cheers

Thanks for the info.

LR is more hardware demanding than you would expect and for best results should use an i7 or Xeon but as budget is a bit tight, will spec with an i5.

Re. the PSU.   The markings will be on the side that you can't see, but as you say, "(looks like cheap stuff...)", it should not be used, it may also have been a factor with the problems you were having.

The build is the best I can do, rememberering that $90 is taken up by the OS.

NB.   We do need more information about the case so we can confirm that the MB will fit.   Is there a brand name on it?   What size is it?   What form factor MB is currently installed?

Dear Technician,

thanks very much for the configuration!!

the case is no brand, but it's the "big one" and the big MB fit, now there is an asus inside but I can't check the model... anyway, any size (the largest one) will fit without problems

your set up looks very good to me, just one question: is the graphics card really needed? My brother is not going to edit any video, only pictures. Is it possible to go forward with the MB card only?

really appreciate your help :)

cheers

You are most welcome

Yes, you can use the Intel hd 530 integrated graphics, but won't give such good performance.

When your system is up and running, you must check in LR that you are actually using the Intel Graphics, instructions and troubleshooting on this page, > https://helpx.adobe....om-gpu-faq.html

Updated parts list, >  https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MYQqPs

Do you have an external drive so you can back up your brothers Data.?   Does his computer Boot up?

Dear Technician,

may I ask what's the difference? I know for gaming, 3D apps and video editing you need a graphic card, I don't know why for pictures.. for my personal knowledge :)

About external data: yes, all the data will be backed up on an external drive, as well as an emergency back up of the full system

The PC is actually working, just hang many times every hour :upset:

thanks!

Your computer needs a graphics engine, either inside the CPU, (IGPU) or an add on one.  The GPU does more than just display the image, > http://www.nvidia.co...-computing.html

The last two version of LR need OpenGL 3.3 and DirectX 10-capable graphics card for GPU related functionality, so older Intel hD graphics and discrete cards will not function properly.

all the data will be backed up on an external drive,

Backing up the existing Data is correct, but no Programs.

as well as an emergency back up of the full system

If you mean the old system, before changing the MB, it will be no good.   If you try to restore that image after changing the MB, it just won't Boot as the old drivers will not match what is required on the new MB.

Once you have the new system up and running, then yes, create a full emergency backup image of the new system.

Gday Faina

based on that, do you think I need a graphics card for my PC as well?

It will be best if you please start a new topic asking your question, list your specs, include the PSU, and the main use fof the computer.

Reasons.   If you look at the top right of your first post, you will see that I am the only member who is following your topic so, 1. starting a new one will alert all Tech staff of your question, thus giving you more opinions.   2.   Members with similar questions can find the topic and 3. this thread won't become confusing.

Thanks for understanding.
