not constantly though. like once every 10 seconds or so it gets a lag which is especially noticable if i turn around in a game. this happens with all the games and also on the lowest resolutions. it didn't use to be that bad. i did a virus scan and panda did detect a few installer files which i quarantined and deleted. this didn't solve the problem though. i am not even sure if the files were actual viruses or if they really caused this behavior.

 

ram usage during gameplay is around 70 percent and 20-30 ish when only windows is running. the problem persists if i turn everything off (autostart programs included) besides the game i am playing. the graphic card temperature is normal in and outside of games. i didn't overclock anything. there's enough free space on both harddrives i'm using.

i tried using the optimal performance settings in the system options. that didn't get rid of it either. it happens with offline games as well. it's not a ping or connection issue. an fps drop does occur though whenever this happens.

It sounds like wmi.  This runs every 10-20 seconds and if it has a bad entry it can eat a lot of CPU.

 

Search for:

 

services.msc

 

hit Enter

 

Scroll down to Windows Management Instrumentation and right click on it and Stop the service.  Then play your game and see if the lag is still present.

 

IF the lag goes away then try rebuilding the WMI Repository

This will take a while to complete.  Once the prompt returns:

 

Reboot.  Open an elevated Command Prompt again and type (with an Enter after the line):

 

sfc  /scannow

 

 

 

This will also take a few minutes.  

 

When it finishes it will say one of the following:

 

Windows did not find any integrity violations (a good thing)

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them (a good thing)

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them (not a good thing)

 

If you get the last result then type:

findstr  /c:"[SR]"  \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log  >  \junk.txt 

 

Hit Enter.  Then type::

 

 

notepad  \junk.txt 

 

Hit Enter.

turning of wmi did not help sadly.

 

the scan returned "Windows did not find any integrity violations"

 

the vew text files seem to be in german. so far i couldn't find an option to change the language. does it rely on the OS language somehow?

 

the last link for speccy didn't work for me. got an error message for the site. something about the website redirecting the query so it never can be finished.

Not sure why SystemSettings.exe (which starts when going to Charms bar and selecting Change PC Settings)  is suspended.  Can you reenable it with Process Explorer?

 

I would uninstall Bonjour - I don't think your version is Win 10 compatible.  You will probably get a new one if you update itunes or safari or other Apple software.

hit enter.  Once it comes up minimize it.  Watch the box it makes in the systray.  As the CPU gets busy the box will fill with green.  Play your game.  Does it get full when it lags?

crap. it says cpu 70° (1741 rpm). that's a bit much, isn't it? it would also explain the lags, i guess.

while running a game it goes up to 100° (2064 rpm). auxtin1 get's too high too apparently: 127°. those are the two readings with a flame symbol.

not enough thermal conductive paste? i put it on cautiously. like only a dot. maybe i gotta check if the fan still sits properly. as far as i can tell with a quick glance everything sits tight. will check again tomorrow thoroughly. it's a pure rock slim 120w made by be quiet.

 

update: so i noticed, one of the four pins indeed got loose. after fixing it the temperature went down to 50 and below (with firefox open). in-game it still goes up to a 100° though. older game like 68°

the lag seems to be better / is gone (?). i hope it's not only wishful thinking. thanks again for pointing the cpu temperature out! i wouldn't have looked for that so quickly! the 100° still worries me though, even if it's only for graphic intense games. and it just stops at 100°. i find that odd because before it's fluctuating all the time. doesn't the temperature reading go any further?

 

 

i manually disabled windows updates in services so that might be why windows is complaining here and there. i will look into this certificate thingy later.

 

the asus xonar card is already giving me trouble anyway btw. the pc doesn't recognize my headset mic as long as the asus card is installed. earphones work. as soon as i use the onboard sound everything works fine. i'm not surprised that the drivers are causing other people problems as well. atm i have the soundcard not in my pc.

 

i don't use ms photo. in fact i tried to get rid of most of the installed MS software.

 

i will have a look at SystemSettings.exe tomorrow.

 

bonjour is uninstalled now.

 

systray. hm it's kinda hard to tell. as far as i can tell the box doesn't get full. i can only see it if i minimize the game, so there's a delay involved there.

I assume we are talking C and not F for the temps.  Normally on a desktop I expect an idle CPU to run in the 40s.  Maybe climb into the 60s under a moderate load like a virus scan or while streaming a video or playing a game.  Anything more and it's time to clean the heatsink, unblock the vents, replace the termal paste (I only use Arctic Silver 5 - actually I like the kit with the cleaner and surface prep). replace the fan, upgrade the heatsink.  

 

The auxtin1 is some sort of Aux temp but no telling what it is.  I've seen a claim that it's the power supply but sort of doubt it.  It's not on my PC.  Probably not very important especially if it always reads the same even when cold.

update: so i did some cleaning and it seems like one of the pins still wasn't fitting right and thus the heatsink didn't sit tightly enough. maybe there was a little too much thermal compound on it too. anyway, after fixing it the temperature is down to 42° on the game which had 100 before. lovely! i wouldn't have figured it out that quickly without you, if ever. great job!
