I have just acquired a Lenovo Laptop which is running Windows 8(I'm probably in wrong area on here).  The laptop loads up correctly, but when trying to shut down the laptop, it just hangs and requires  that I press power button to shut it off correctly.  The laptop has been reformatted with Windows 8 being re-installed and that's when I encountered the shut down problem.

What happens of you press [Winkey][R], type in shutdown -s -t 0 -f and press [Enter]? (That "0" is a zero, not an uppercase 'oh').

If it shuts down, you could create a shortcut using that command to shut it down.
