Hello,

I made the very stupid mistake of cooking with my laptop in the kitchen and getting some oil splattered on it.

I read that oil is not conductive and so the motherboard should be fine. I cleaned it off and shut down my laptop for a while.

Everything works just fine now, except there is a large bright spot in the lower right corner. I can see through it, but I'd like to fix it if I can.

If I can take off the screen myself, and clean behind it, would this go away? (It's clearly seeped behind the screen). Does it just need to be cleaned behind the screen with a microfiber cloth? Or is it already damaged?

If it's already damaged, I'm not going to bother with taking it apart. If it would be worth it, however, I will take it apart very carefully and clean behind the screen.

It's an HP Pavilion notebook.

What do people think? (Is there another way to do it)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Calabaza,

Rest assured that you are not the first to find yourself in this situation. Instead of just providing some long drawn out idea on what to do, following is a link of google links that may help:

cooking oil seeped behind laptop screen

You could also tweak the search terms to include How to remove. Hope that helps. Please stay tuned, other dedicated members may have some ideas as well.

Please keep us informed..

Good luck!

Donna :)
