My PC gets the BSOD and restarts only after waking from sleep/hibernation. No other time. Otherwise, everything runs fine.

 

The stop code I receive is: VIDEO TDR FAILURE

Has this started just recently, if yes, check for a system restore point that is before the time and date that this first started, if you have one, try using it and see how things go.

 

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.

2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.

3. Upload the zip folder using the More Reply Options tab, Choose File then the Attach This File tab., bottom left of the dialogue input box.

PC seemed to be on last leg and HD failure was imminent. I purchased a new/more stable hard drive and did a complete wipe and Win 10 install.

I could be wrong but almost certain that this is a video chip that is integrated into the motherboard, regardless, looking at your two crash dmps we could see that as you said the issue was VIDEO TDR FAILURE - atikmpag.sys 

 

Have you have reinstalled the drivers for this device, if yes, did you also install the catalyst control centre software as well.

You are correct. It's integrated into the motherboard. I did reinstall the drivers. Or at least I think I did. It says that the most recent drivers are installed when attempting to update. I even rolled back and then updated. I have not installed Catalyst. Should I?

 

Also, I'm okay with picking this back up tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

I`ve been wrong before but almost certain that this is a software issue!

 

Bit of work for you to do I`m afraid 

 

From your OP;

1: Hibernation is a pain in the proverbial and known to cause problems in Windows 10, first suggestion is to disable it and test as in use the computer as you normally would, game, watch a video, email, shutdown and reboot the next day etc.

 

Open the Win+X menu, and click/tap on Command Prompt (Admin)

In the elevated command prompt type powercfg -h off press Enter see how it goes, if the problem persists move on to steps 2 and 3 for us if you will;

 

 

2: Download DriverView from nirsoft.net

Run DriverView.

Save the results as a Text File.

Copy/paste the info into your next reply for us please.

 

3: Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Need to check, does the above mean that disabling Hibernation has not helped, if not, it suggests that it was not the cause of the issue which looking at the info in your OP it suggested that it was.

 

Regarding the drivers and Speccy report, was that the only driver that showed up when you ran DriverView**, Speccy is not showing any hardware drivers or Windows updates as having been installed, Windows needs to be fully up to date to help keep you protected from malware attack + some are patches to fix known driver issues and the hardware drivers to be able to communicate with the devices and Windows.

 

** Among the things that the Windows ACPI.sys driver does, it is responsible for plug and play (pnp) devices and the USB controller for system wake up.

Do you recall what you installed and from where, there are no Windows 10 drivers available for your MB.

 

Noticed the following in Speccy 1/1/2018 11:40 AM;: Driver Easy Scheduled Scan Avoid such programs like the plague, see my canned info below as to why and the info at the link here and you will get the general consensus.

 

 

Avoid using any software that automatically updates your system.

 

Please note that drivers should never be updated unless it is to address a known issue, if a driver is installed needlessly you can end up creating the very issue that the updated driver was intended to correct, rolling back to the previous driver does not always work and waiting for the next driver update can take some time and again may not resolve the issue.

 

When possible, always obtain drivers directly from the provider of your hardware/software and only use drivers or patches from third parties for older or no longer supported hardware/software.

Actually, it is still doing it on restarts

So you get a BSOD every time you try restarting the computer after it has been shut down overnight etc and/or every time that you need to re-start Windows.

 

What about the other two things I mentioned in my reply #10!
