I find myself in a most peculiar position here. I have a huge number of photos all in one large folder, which is supposedly on the desktop, according to data recovery programs, although i may have deleted the shortcut unthinkingly. At any rate, the data recovery programs are telling me that the photo files i am seeking, are all there and all in "good" condition... but when i use search programs such as "Everything" and the built in one on the start menu, the files and folders and sub-folders cannot be found at all. SO, the question is: WHERE ARE MY PHOTOS?? Why can't they be found using normal search programs? The data recovery programs say they are on my computer safe and sound, but they cannot be "recovered" since they are not lost. Can't even use the data recovery program to transfer them all to a new, easy to find folder. HELP!!!

Folders/files not lost, but in a location which cannot be searched.

Try this: Press [Ctrl][Esc], type in:
*.jpg
and press [Enter]. Give the computer a minute and a Windows Explorer windows should pop up. Near the top right of that window, use the View icon to select "Extra Large Icons". Now browse through the pics to see if any of those are the ones you are looking for. When you do see one, right-click it and select "Properties" and under the "General" tab, just to the right of "Location:" is the "drive:\path" where that photo (.jpg) is located.

jpg is the most common for pictures. It could also be bmp, tif, pcx, gif, to name a few others.
