Good.

Try the following again, the system may have some errors...

Check Windows System files integrity
- open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
- type the command:
sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish...

Please report the result of the command.

SD,

I disabled K, got into the DOS-like Administrator window but the scan would not run.  Error message was:

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

With the Antivirus disabled it should help speeding the process.

Before running SFC try this:

net start trustedinstaller

then:

sfc /scannow

SD,

I typed net start trustedinstaller and received this error message

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Download the script services_startup_10.cmd and save it to the Desktop
Right click on the file and click Run as Administrator wait for the script to finish

Restart the system then try the SFC command again.

SD,

If you are indeed in Portugal, it must be past Midnight.  If you are willing to continue to help me, I will post again tomorrow to see if there is anything we can do about the very, very slow boot up.

Hi,

At least now SFC works.

Run also this from a Command Prompt running as Administrator

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

It should reach 100% without any errors.

SD,

The computer seems only a wee bit slow in most all uses, but it still takes about 4 minutes to boot up.

Another issue that came up is that something is odd with MSN.  I use MSN as my home page.  On the MSN homepage on the left side is a window that highlights and allows the user to scroll though various news and entertainment stories.

With Chrome the window is totally blank

In Firefox, the "window" is not blank, BUT, when one clicks on the window it does NOT go to the story, rather it goes to the source of the story, for example, if the story is a business article from the London Times, it goes to a page that shows the London TImes.

I don't know if you are interested in exploring this or not -- let me know.

Hi,

Lets see if Windows is reporting some errors, Run Minitoolbox only with the option List last 10 Event Viewer log and post the generated log.
