Oh dear, well if it does turn out to be the PSU

Not convinced atm Locla;

No video with or without the add on video card, CPU getting power and no error beeps with the RAM removed does though suggest that the MB has issues.

The CPU (i5-4690k) to the new MB (Asus Z97-P) arrived earlier. Unfortunately, I had no luck with minimal breadboard tests.

I know that they may be DOA, but the likelihood must now be that the PSU is at fault. I can either buy a new one or a PSU tester as was suggested earlier. This is all bad timing as I'm away for three weeks on Wednesday... not to mention the fact that I threw an old but functional proprietary Dell PSU away, which I'd been trying to sell for years, the day before these troubles began. Having said that I did find a shop who can deliver on Monday, if I go with buying a new PSU. (Looking at Corsair HX850i)

:smashcomp:

I keep telling myself that it's all a learning curve :spoton:

UPDATE:

A nice shiny new Corsair PSU (complete with 10 year warranty) arrived today and revealed that both sets of MBs and CPUs are fully functional. (I've decided to keep both sets for testing etc in the future; I will not repeat the mistake of throwing away a functional part as I did with the Dell PSU)

I'm disappointed with the EVGA NEX750B really - I know that their product failed outside of their 3 year warranty, but to fail a mere 3 months after the warranty expired is a bit of a kick. Should anyone with a build project read this, my advice would be to invest well in the PSU, ensuring also that the warranty is longstanding.

Thank you phillpower2 & co for assisting in this matter, your help is always appreciated  :happy:

Do you still have the paperwork for the EVGA PSU, it could be worth checking to see if your warranty period was 5yrs, see info here and here

You are welcome btw  :)

Ill have a more thorough check through the paperwork when I get back in a month or so - good shout. Although I do seem to remember reading that it was 3 years when I did briefly check. Would be nice if I could get a replacement to offset the expense. I just had a read through my email receipt from amazon and I didnt find much on the subject of warranties, but Ill certainly check when I return, seeing as youve found some vendors offering a 5 year warranty.

Cheers 😊

Also check with the credit card that you used as some increase the warranty.
