hit Enter

 

This should bring up the Device Manager window.  Under Network Adapter s(hit the arrow in front to open) you should see your WiFi adapter.  Right click on it and select Properties, then Power Management

uncheck Allow The Computer to Turn Off this Device to Save Power.  Sometimes Windows will shut off power at the oddest times.

The good news is that I've had no more issues with any malware related symptoms. The only issue now is that I cannot access any of my network computers/printers or even the network folders for this computer. I am able to use my other network computer to access folders on this computer. I am assuming that it has been caused by something we did the clear the infection as before it was working and now it doesn't. Is this the sort of thing you can help me with or do I have to create a new thread in a different section?

Sounds like your network has been identified as Public.  You need to go into Settings, Network and Internet, Change Connection Properties,

 

Check Private and then close and reboot. 

 

If it was already on Private then Control Panel, (View by: Large Icons), Network & Sharing Center, Change Advanced Sharing Options

 

Should look like this:

Those settings were already like that. As I said before, its weird because I can access the computer from other network computers, I just can't access other networks locations from this computer, even the network folders for this computer, when I try and open it I just get the message;

 

Windows cannot access \\Desktop-GQDL9OG\Users

 

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

 

diagnose tells me nothing.

Search for:

File Explorer

hit Enter.  Click on This PC then on your C: drive then on Users.  Right click on Users and select Properties then Security.  Does it look like this:

 

 

You should have 4 entries, Everyone should have the same permissions as shown.  Does it?

If you try to Map a Network drive do you get an error?

Let's see if FullEventView shows any problems:

Download FullEventLogView (32-bit version)
Download FullEventLogView (64-bit version)


Right click on the downloaded file and Extract All, Extract.  Doubleclick on FullEventLogView.exe

Once the program starts:  Options, Advanced Options and in the new window uncheck Informational verbose and Undefined.

Show only events from the last 1 Days (I assume you have tried clicking on Network recently)

OK

Now Edit, Select All

File, Save Selected Items, to your desktop, call it events,  Save.

Close the program.  You should have a file called events.txt on your desktop.  Open it, Edit, Select All, Ctrl + c to copy and then move to a Reply and Ctrl +v to paste it into the reply.
