Ok, so I leave my computer on alot, with my AIM screen name up. I leave it on, go to work for about 5 hours, and I come back home with a program named "spy sheriff" self installed on my computer, and a completely blue screen, with a black box in the center that says, "system has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer before all spyware removed." Ok, first of all, I know this message isnt professional, because in the black box, they spelt RECOMMENDED wrong... So anyway, I stay up pretty late running different spyware, adware, virus scanning programs, such as Adware SE Personal, Spyboy Search and Destroy, Norton Anti-Virus, and PC Bug Doctor. I run these programs in regular mode, get every bug on my whole computer I can find off, and its still there.... I boot up in safe mode, run all the programs again, and WHAT DO YOU KNOW! It's gone.... So i'm pretty happy with my work, until about 6 hours later when "spy sherriff" installs itself back onto my computer, and I get my blue screen with the little black box up again...Now correct me if im wrong, but there must be something in my registry causing it to keep installing itself.... Here is my Hi-Jack-This Log:

Welcome to Geeks to Go!

First, download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet *NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Download, install, and update Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
After the updates are installed, exit Ewido

Reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Once in Safe Mode, Run Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).

After you're done running Cleanup! follow the instructions below
  • Run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "clean", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot into normal mode.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

SpySheriff
Viewpoint
AWS (or Weatherbug)

Exit Add or Remove Programs.

Delete the following, in bold, if found:

C:\Program Files\SpySheriff <-whole folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <-whole folder
C:\Program Files\AWS <-whole folder
C:\Windows\Desktop.html
C:\winstall.exe

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank

O16 - DPF: {65E7DB1D-0101-4100-BD66-C5C78C917F93} - http://install.wildt...lim/install.cab

Close HiJackThis.

RIGHT-CLICK HERE and go to Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download the smitfraud reg to your desktop.

Double-click smitfraud.reg on your desktop. When asked if you want to merge with the registry click YES. After the merged successfully prompt, please reboot your computer.

You should be able to change your desktop back to normal now.

Navigate to this folder using Windows Explorer:

C:\Windows\Prefetch

Delete ALL files inside of the Prefetch folder (do NOT delete the folder, just the files inside).

Post the report from Ewido and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

Excellent :tazz:

One more thing I need you to do:

Run this online virus scan using Internet Explorer - Firefox won't work:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here.

Panda seems to be having technical problems. You'll need to check the site again in a few hours. ;) I'm not in any big hurry, so just whenever you get a chance to check the site later will be great :tazz:

Actually, it's already working again :tazz: It'll be a blank page at first, then after a minute it will load ;)

How long did you wait? When you go to the ActiveScan site it will be a blank page that says "done" at the bottom, just wait and it will load. If not, then I'll have you run another online scan but it takes much longer to do.

I left it on overnight, and nothing happened... also, Ewido keeps coming up saying that the following file is infected with malware...it comes up probably about every 2 hours or so:

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp

The file Ewido is finding is in a temporary file, so please run Cleanup! again to clear it out. After running cleanup, follow the instructions below.

Since ActiveScan is not working for you, let's have you do this one (using IE as well) - it will take a while to run particularly if you are on dial-up:

Kaspersky Web Scanner

Fill out the info, then click OK and follow the instructions on the screen. Delete any infected files it finds and let me know what the files are (if any).

I ran a cleanup, and it is still finding this file.... But I have not yet had a chance to run the online scan, maybe overnight tonight I will.

I have not yet run the scan, but I'm asking if you have a solution to why I ran cleanup, and and still get the warning about the temp file....also why my windows is messed up. When I try to make my theme go to windows xp, the desktop changes, color schemes stay the same as windows classic, and start menu is still the same grey color along with the taskbar and everything....changing themes does not work...
