Hello,

So my mother is in a assisted living facility that provides free WiFi to its residents. She has been there over a year and uses it for her roku stick only. It hasnt been an issue until recently other than getting knocked off occasionally when it rains. (Wasnt to much of a headache before covid, but now that family isnt allowed in the building,I have to walk staff through reconnecting due to the captive portal)

However, they recently moved her to a new room. She likes her new roommate much more than the last and she seems happier other than now her roku won't stay connected. I called the nursing home and was told that something was just updated with the internet and she wasnt the only one having the issue of it dropping several times a day. They never said what specifically was updated.

After doing some research I called back and asked to speak with their IT person and was informed that they dont have one. The maintenance dept does their IT which doesnt make me very confident about them resolving the issue and makes me wonder if something involving the internet was actually updated. In fact, one of these a**holes turned the hotspot on her cell phone (on my plan, without speaking to me) to "resolve" the connection issue. It couldnt have been my mother as she no longer possesses the cognitive ability to reconnect the roku let alone turn on the hotspot and use 75% of the data.

I actually went and stood outside her window today to check the Wi-Fi signal and its terrible. In her previous room she had full signal but standing right outside her window I barely had any. Im sure this is more the issue.

So what are my options?
I cant go inside the building due to covid. Even if I could I doubt I could gain access to the router.
Ive considered getting her, her own internet service but doubtful that they will let a tech in to hook it up.

I was looking at Wi-Fi repeaters or a travel router but I'm not sure if it would help or if so, would the captive portal be an issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just need a direction.

Thanks
