I believe it may be the version used. If we are to remove that version and install a previous one, would you be losing any personal data?

It is late for me.

If you wish to remove version 20.170.0824.0001, open a command prompt as an Administrator and copy and paste the following command:

C:\Users\vtmck\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive\20.170.0824.0001\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall

Follow the prompts.

If necessary, Download OneDrive for Windows - Version 20.169.0823.0008 (October 16, 2020) and install.

Let me know the outcome.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking.  I can't even find OneDrive installed anywhere.  I keep all of my important files under OneDrive because I've had too many issues with these laptops lately and didn't have up-to-date backups.  So, I lost a lot of my data.

Currently, all of my files reside on:  https://onedrive.live.com/and maybe I can back up all of my files to an external drive.  But, how do I uninstall what I don't see?  I would need detailed steps on uninstalling and installing OneDrive.

For example, attached is screen print of some of my OneDrive Files.  If I click on a file that has a cloud icon for the status, I can't open it.  I get:  Make sure OneDrive is running on your PC, then try again.  But, if I go to https://onedrive.live.com/????????, I can open that file.

Hi,

I think we were posting an update at the same time.  It's late for me also; so, I'll take a look at it tomorrow.  My concern is that I do not want to lose any of my files.

Thank you...

Run this command:

Explorer "%Userprofile%"\OneDrive

A window will open. It should contain documents images and others. If these folders are empty, uninstall and reinstall the lower version. If folders are not empty, backup and uninstall, then reinstall.

Hi,

I found a hit (https://www.groovypo...ive-windows-10/) last night and I just implemented the steps.  Basically I uninstalled it via
Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Scroll down to Microsoft OneDrive, select it then click Uninstall.

Then, I re-installed using OneDriveSetup in the WinSxS folder.

It seems to be working now.  I can now see the OneDrive App in the search bar when I click START and type it in.  I also see it running in task manager and I'm able to access some of the files that I was not able to access.  I think right now, it's syncing things; however, I think OneDrive might be ok.

I did notice that when I type in "Control Panel" it shows up; but doesn't have App underneath it.  And, "Command Prompt" isn't showing up at all in the search as an App like it normally does.  So, I guess these are different issues.  When I get some time, I'll have to look into it further.

Thanks for all your help.  I appreciate it!

Good job.

lets see if there is a policy. Run this command:

Reg query HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies /s > "%userprofile%"\desktop\policy.txt

It should produce a file on your desktop, policy.txt. Post its contents in your next reply.

There is a way to replace the Powershell command with the Command Prompt in the start menu. Follow these steps:

Right click on the Start orb and select Settings -> Personalization-> Taskbar. Scroll down to the switch that indicates "Replace Command Prompt with Windows Powershell...." and turn it Off. Now click on the start orb and see if the Command Prompt Option is Present.

In regard to the Control Panel, Download the WinXMenuEditorRelease.zip and extract its contents to its own folder. Open the folder and click on the WinXeditor.exe. Scroll down to Group 2, right click on the Control Panel option and rename it as Settings. Click on Group2, then Add a Program from the Menu, then on Add a Control Panel Item. Scroll down to All Control Panel items, the click on Select. Click on Restart Explorer.

Right click on the Start orb, Both, the Settings and Control Panel will appear as options. Give it a try.

Let me know how it goes.

I turned off that setting; however, Command Prompt still did not show up; so I went to the next step--winXMenu and did the steps you listed.  It was not appearing either.  After I clicked Restart Explorer about 3 times, both showed up as Apps. However, they do NOT work.  I click it on and nothing happens.  Also, the options listed in the right pane are not the normal options that are listed.

Please see the attachments.  I also attached the Wineditor screen and I see Command Prompt twice in Group 3.  As per your steps, I implemented them in Group 2.  I think things need to be reset because now I can't do anything with those two apps.

C:\Users\vtmck\OneDrive\Desktop>

The command is:

Start  C:\Users\vtmck\Desktop\policy.txt

I just saw the above.  What exactly are you saying or asking?  A while ago, I stated to you that "Desktop" resides under OneDrive directory.  The first time you gave me a command to redirect the output to that directory structure, it failed because it could not find the path.  I researched and found that it should be "C:\Users\vtmck\OneDrive\Desktop.  For example, if I ran the exact command you gave me in the previous post, I will get this:

C:\>Reg query HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies /s > "%userprofile%"\desktop\policy.txt
The system cannot find the path specified.

C:\>

You are redirecting the policy.txt file to a non-existent directory.  Either way, the command does not produce any content.

If I ran "Reg query HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies /s", nothing is produced.  So redirecting it to a file will yield nothing.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are asking.  Please elaborate.  Thank you...

That is odd as the variables indicates that the %Userprofile%=c:\Users\vtmck and the desktop should be under your profile.

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it.

Make sure All options are checked and press on scan.:

It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

I have move the topic to the Malware forum, as I may have to use special tools to check your system.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click FRST(64) and select Run as administrator.
  • Make sure that under Optional Scans, there is a checkmark on Addition.txt.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The tool will also produce another log (Addition.txt ). Please attach this to your reply.
