monitor selection on startup

we want to use a lilliput touch screen with our acer extensa 503dx , but the computer will not use it as the default monitor on startup. The display adaptor is Neomagic MagicGraph 128zv+ version 4.11.01.0018-q6.24.00.

The Neomagic properties can be set to the touchscreen but this information is not saved on closing down and must be reset each time.

Any ideas so as we can use the computer and touch screen in the car. the laptop will be under the back seat.
