Port Royale 2 problems

I installed Port Royale 2 without difficulty, but this was short lived as I started the game. I checked for the cd for a really long time and then nothing happens but a long wait. Is this supposed to happen on startup or what?

-1.5Ghz
-ATI Radeon 7500
-512 RAM
-40Gb Hard Drive
