I am using Win98 SE. When I startup my computer it will not go past scandisk unless I exit out of the program. It will not fix the errors on my hard drive is there any free downloadable program that I can install on my computer to possibly fix my hard drive

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools, run system file checker and replace any files it shows as missing or corrupt.

Reboot the PC then keep tapping the F8 key right after the beep until you get the options screen, select command prompt only, type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, when this says the registry has been repaired, press enter, then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

Run Windows defragmenter

Run Panda Scan

Get Tune Up Trial

http://www.tune-up.com

Run disc clean up then registry clean up then click optimize to run reg defrag, which will take a while and requires a reboot

Run Tune Up, optimize, system optimizer to run optimize computer configuration, which needs a reboot.

Run Tune Up, optimize, system optimize to run internet optimization, which needs a reboot.

Run Tune Up, optimize, system optimizer to run system advisor.

These steps will place the file system in order, replace corrupt or missing files, replace the registry structure, remove obsolete registry entries and clear the system of software errors.

After I completed those tasks I still get the same error on boot that I have bad sectors on my disk scan.
I need some type of program that fix actual bad sectors on a hard drive not a tool that fixes damaged files

From your description you need a new hard drive, or at least a good used one. Bad hard drives only get worse and trying to save the drive may mean losing your programs and data. If you have another computer hook the old hard drive to the IDE cable as a slave and transfer your files over, if they are all you care about. If you have programs you want to keep you can "clone" your old drive to the new one, correct any bad files and start using your computer again. :tazz:

Thankyou
I was afraid you were going to tell me that. I was just hoping there was some kind of software to fix the problem
