Maybe the computer has been forced to give another connection priority:

http://vil.nai.com/v...nt/v_100054.htm

Try this please:

Click Start > Run type services.msc > OK
In the list of services find:
FireDaemon Service
Rightclick that line and choose Properties.
On the General tab Stop and set the service to disabled.
In HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete an NT service
In the dialog box paste: FireDaemon Service

You may have to repeat thelast part since there are two of them.

O23 - Service: FireDaemon Service: svchost1 (svchost1) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\Temp\FireDaemon.EXE (file missing)
O23 - Service: FireDaemon Service: system (system) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\Temp\FireDaemon.EXE (file missing)

In the Norton Control centre disable email scanning.

Just try if it helps. You will probably not be able to receive email at all with the proxy off, but we will now where to look if it works.
