Wmipvrse? AIM problems/ possible trojan- Resolved

So I've spent the last so and so hours/days looking into the minor problems on my computer. I took a trip to my aunt's house and she had an assload of problems, so that got me to thinking about my own computer. Well, I get home and for some reason (a couple days later) my AIM shows an IM saying "You have logged onto 2 other computers"...soo...as far as I know no one has my PW. I even changed the PW and last night I got the message that I was on another computer (Of course, it luckily gives you the option of logging the it off...dunno if that helps.) Anyway, I'm trying to make sure my computer has no bugs.

I've scanned with Panda/Trend Micro/Norton/Ewido/Adaware and god knows what. I thought everything was okay, but then I noticed a program called "wmiprvse.exe" running once I boot. Also, Norton's auto-protect is disabled when windows logs on (suspicious, methinks). Looked up "wmipvrse.exe" and found a site linking it to a bank password Outlook Express vulnerability taker-of-innocence! So..yeah..wondering................... The webpage showing suspicions that the file is a virus.

I also recently contracted "downloader.trojan" I looked up and down the computer for any entries after Norton detected it and I'm pretty sure it's gone, but I don't know because it seems to have just DISAPPEARED. Maybe Norton repaired it and didn't tell me. Sadly, EasyCleaner deleted the log due to my carelessness.

Another thing! ZoneAlarm keeps saying that 'svchost' is trying to send ingoing and outgoing from my computer. It -says- it's only a medium risk which could just be "internet background noise" but I'm feeling dubious.

Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.


Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\Program Files\Ad Muncher\AdMunch.exe
C:\Program Files\MyChat\mychat.exe
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

I didn't delete My Chat or Admunch because A) chat program and B) ad blocker.

Anyway, still concerned about Wmipvrse 'n whatnot.


And blah, didn't notice one of the files didn't delete. I can do that later if you don't mind.

Basically the only thing I'm REALLY worried about is that my firewall keeps saying that 'svchost' is trying to send ingoing and outgoing messages. I'm wondering if it's something bad or just a component of my ISP.

Not only that, but I just called my ISP's tech support line and they said that there is no record of my getting disconnected. Which means it's ...the computer..and..that's..bad...and..yeah..

Okay okay, AFTER THIS I AM SHUTTING UP.


I think someone's found a backdoor into my machine by using svchost programs to send ingoing and outgoing messages. There isn't any reason for the programs to be anything but idle, right? :tazz:

Cross that out. Now I understand. I'm learning all the time. I think I figured out my own problem but I'm still paranoid. Case closed. -.-
