Hi there, thanks for your help.
I keep getting redirected to specialgoods offers on the internet (explorer), have a little red circle with a white cross on it in the bottom right corner of my screen (next to the clock), which everytime i click on redirects my browser, and false security warnings appear on my screen telling my to download a new anti-spyware program.
I have downloaded and run Webroot, spyware doctor, Spybot and Ad-aware, none of which have helped and am running VET antivirus.
Here is my log file.
Many thanks

Hi theshill and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
We will be using this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

5. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

6. Open HiJack and do a scan.

7. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://65.196.233.43/search.php
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.specialgo...info/ad/ad0236/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://65.196.233.43/search.php
O2 - BHO: ZIBho Class - {029CA12C-89C1-46a7-A3C7-82F2F98635CB} - blank (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSOOBD] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OOBE\MSOOBD.EXE

8. click the Fix Checked box

9. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OOBE

10. Run the program CleanUp!

11. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

12. Please post the Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

  • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here

Hi EXCAL
Followed your instructions but I rebooted the system after running KILLBOX, before I ran hijack this and had a chance to fix

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.specialgo...info/ad/ad0236/

But, when I rebooted and ran hijck this, that wasnt there, instead it read:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.hotkey.net.au

But, So far it appears that my computer is running as normal, there is no red circle in the bottom right of my screen, my start page is back to normal and no pages have been automatically re-directed (yet)!

Here is my latest hijckthis log.
Please let me know if it looks normal, as I dont want this link to close if it is not.
Thank you thank you thank you
Cheers
Theshill

Hi Loophole
Thanks for your reply.
So far everything seems OK
I have just downloaded ZoneAlaramPro for extra protection, do you have any experience with this program?

Otherwise please say a very big thank you on my behalf to EXCAL, without their help I would be in serious trouble. You have been great help.

Thanks again

Hello theshill ;)

I personally have never used Zonealarm but alot of people do and it is a recommended program .There is somewhat of a tutorial here http://www.must-have...ware.php?id=204

For a few more items to help protect your computer read below

your system is clean :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and Spyware Aid's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
