the file association problem is with all the icons basically except the folders... i have ran the bat file xp_fileassoc.bat and the icons are back to the way they looked like before instead of just being blank, but when i try to run any of the icons or programs it just pops up a message window saying "the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel."

i can still run the programs, but i have to go to start-> run and then browse the program, and then do it again with openwith to run them. any idea?

what can you tell me about this system?

You have several things showing that normally do not show in a hijack log, but that could be because of your odd windows origin folder (winxp2)
C:\WINXP2\System32\cisvc.exe
C:\WINXP2\System32\tcpsvcs.exe
C:\WINXP2\System32\snmp.exe
C:\WINXP2\System32\mqsvc.exe
C:\WINXP2\System32\mqtgsvc.exe

These normally dont show though all are windows services.

my computer has windows xp pro running on it. the reason for the weird windows folder being called WINXP2 is because i have had some problems with the computer after windows automatically downloaded some patches and due to their incompatibility with some of hte software i had on this system, my computer was unusable until i called microsoft and they told me to do a parallel install so i can get back onto the system.... which is why my windows folder is called winxp2...... also it's pretty funny... i havexp_exe_fix.reg, linkfile_fix.reg, and xp_fileassoc.bat, they seem to work but everytime i restart the computer or log online, the file association seems to get [bleep]ed up all over again.
