I'll add one other piece of info. - When I get the message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.... " the details of the error are:
AppName: iexplore.exe
App Ver: 6.0.2900.2180
Mod Name: shdocvw.dll
Mod Ver: 6.0.2900.2668
Offset: 00029f93
Hope that helps
and an interesting piece of info, at that.
Mod Name: shdocvw.dll
Mod Ver: 6.0.2900.2668
according to the MS DLL library, this file does not exist!
It is possible that there is a new update that I have not yet encountered\\
Do a search for shdocvw.dll
start > search
make sure you check advanced options, and search system folders and hidden files and folders and subfolders.
Also, right click any column header (name is fine), choose MORE, then check PRODUCT VERSION and FILE VERSION.
Enlarge the window so you can see all columns
what versions of that file do you find?

Wimbledon, for example, is a java applet...so is limewire. So, first a question
Have you run an antivirus program lately?
Second, download and install the following

I thougt I found someone with the same problem. I can launch IE explorer but I cannot click on anything further without getting the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to closes" shdocvw.dll problem. This happens on every site I try.
It sounds like I have a different problem than "silver1"
Let me know if I should hop out of this dialogue and start another thread. Sorry for the confusion - I was so excited that I found someone with what I thought was the same problem!

There is a patch that they have out now that might fix that problem.
